Online certification training is our specialty here at ProTrain. We prepare students with advanced knowledge that allows them to take and pass nationally accredited certification exams. The model we utilize has worked well for years. It will continue to apply in the future. But there is something else on the horizon: hands-on practice.
Is hands-on practice the next big thing in certification training? It looks that way, at least in highly technical professions. Combining traditional or online learning with hands-on practice is an excellent way to prepare both students and current workers for the very near future.
Hands-On Practice in Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is one of the fields in which hands-on practice is likely to be introduced in the coming years. If the Defense Department (DOD) has a say in the matter, tomorrow’s cybersecurity experts will be subject to an ongoing protocol of certification training supported by hands-on practice.
Earlier this year, the DOD released a report describing the current state of the cybersecurity landscape. It is not good. Threat actors are increasingly mounting ever more sophisticated attacks across both government and private business. Federal agencies alone were subject to more than 32,000 security incidents in 2023.
The DOD says that security threats are evolving too quickly to rely exclusively on certification programs that only prepare students to take tests. By the time courses are complete and tests are taken, threat actors have moved on to something else. So the federal agency envisions the day when test preparation is combined with hands-on practice provided by cybersecurity experts already working on the latest threats.
Relevant Information for Right Now
What the DOD hopes to accomplish with cybersecurity training pretty much sums up the primary philosophy behind online certification training. It is all about relevant information workers need right now. Outdated knowledge no longer utilized in the workplace is knowledge workers don’t need. Instead, they need to be on the cutting edge of what is happening today and could happen tomorrow.
It makes sense that online training should be as fast as possible. If it takes too long to get certified, knowledge and skills may be outdated before a worker has time to put them to use. That being the case, most of our courses can be completed in 12 months or less.
Check Out Our Network Security Courses
We offer a number of courses relating to network security. Nearly all of them are online and self-paced. What does that mean? It means students have 12 months to complete a couple of hundred hours of coursework. Some can complete the work in just a month or two. Others need the full year. Still others fall somewhere in between.
The long and short of it is that students are completing coursework and getting certified quickly – while the knowledge and skills obtained are still relevant. And when a student finishes one course, they are free to move on to the next.
