  Adobe Dreamweaver CC Curriculum

Lesson 1: Getting Started

In this lesson, you will install the Dreamweaver software and class files, and get comfortable working with the Dreamweaver environment. If you are already familiar with other Adobe applications, then some of this will be familiar to you, but spend time getting comfortable with the information that is available to you on the screen. The more aware you are of where you are in a document and what the screen is telling you, the better you’ll be able to handle any issues that come up.  You will take a tour of the Dreamweaver work space and learn about the tools that are available.   

 

Lesson 2: HTML and CSS

In this lesson, you will explore HTML and CSS. These two tools are the building blocks of all web sites. While using Dreamweaver to create and format pages, the pages will be created in HTML and CSS. Many times you’ll find that there is a problem with the page and the only way to fix it is to use the code view. You may also find things that are easier to do within the code.

 

Lesson 3: Web Design Basics  

Now that you know your way around Dreamweaver and a bit about HTML and CSS, let’s get to building web pages! You will look at building a page from an existing Dreamweaver template and look at how to customize the template appearance. This will be a regular way to start designing a website.

 

Lesson 4: Designing for Mobile Devices

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to use “mobile-first” design which considers designing for mobile devices before designing for traditional desktop computers. You’ll learn how to use two basic tools that adapt to this new design concept, media type and media query.  Finally, you will create and edit a web page for mobile and handheld devices. 

 

Lesson 5: Working with Templates

Your basic web pages should be taking shape, so now you will want to create more pages for your site. Instead of starting from scratch for each page or copying/pasting from your home page, you are going to create a template that can be used as a starting point for the other pages in the site. This template will contain the basic structure and formatting for your pages so that you can focus more on content.

 

Lesson 6: Working with Text and Images

In this lesson, you will start developing content for the pages. You’ll look at different ways to structure the text on a web page, including lists, tables, and images. 

 

Lesson 7: Navigation and Interactivity

In this lesson, you will begin adding navigation to your site. This is something you’ll definitely want to think about. You will also add some interactivity to the web pages as another option for organizing the content.

 

Lesson 8: Publishing to the Web

By now your site is fairly complete and you may want to share it with the world. You will walk through the process of publishing your site to a web server and what needs to be done to keep it up-to-date as changes are made.

 

Lesson 9: Adding Code and Animations 

This lesson focuses on extended coding techniques new to Dreamweaver CC 2017.  The new version includes improved tools and workflows for coders and developers.  You’ll learn to write code using Emmet shorthand, and use Live Code to test and troubleshoot dynamic code.  This lesson also includes instruction on how to insert web-compatible video and animation to your web site. 

 

Lesson 10: Putting it All Together

During this lesson, you will look back through all you have learned and apply this to a site of your own. You can finish up the site you’ve been working on all along for the Assignments or you can start over with a new site now that you’ve seen the complete process. Focus your attention first on your home page. Choose the colors, text and layout you want for your site. Once the home page is designed and you are happy with how it looks, then build a template and move on to the other pages.

  Adobe Illustrator CC Curriculum

Lesson 1:  Getting Started

In this lesson you will get comfortable with the Illustrator environment and look at some of the basic tools you will be using throughout the course.

 

Lesson 2: Creating and Transforming Shapes

In this lesson, you will learn to work with some of the drawing tools Illustrator has to offer. You will draw rectangular and elliptical shapes and draw polygons and stars. Once you have drawn the objects you will learn to edit them by changing the shape of the objects, changing their fill, the stroke and using the transform tools to rotate, skew, sheer and otherwise distort the objects.

 

Lesson 3: Working with Color

In this lesson you will explore the color features in Illustrator. You will learn how to apply fill and line colors to your artwork and save colors used regularly into the Color Palette. You will create groups of color using the Color Guide panel and create patterns to paint your artwork.

 

Lesson 4: Working with Text

In this lesson you will work with text in Illustrator. You will add various types of text: point, path and area, and learn how to apply character and paragraph formatting and styles. You will also learn about warping text and converting text to paths.

 

Lesson 5: Working with Layers

In this lesson you will be working with layers to help you organize your projects.

 

Lesson 6: Blending and Brushes

In this lesson you will create blends and work with brushes. The Blend Tool allows you to create new shapes by blending existing shapes and allows us to copy shapes. You will also explore the different kinds of brushes available in Illustrator.

 

Lesson 7:  Effects and Graphic Styles

In this lesson you will add effects and graphic styles to objects drawn in Illustrator. Also, you will learn options for making your work usable on the web.

 

Lesson 8:  Creating Art for T-shirts and the Web

In this lesson you will use work with symbols of Illustrator and learn how to prepare content for the web.

 

Lesson 9:  Using Illustrator with Other Applications

In this lesson you will take a look at combining Illustrator artwork with images from other applications. 

 

Lesson 10: Putting it All Together

You made it! You have now had a chance to work with most of the tools Illustrator offers. Now it will be up to you to practice what you have learned and apply it to the work you plan to do with Illustrator.

  Adobe InDesign CC Curriculum

Lesson 1: Getting Started

In this lesson we will learn the basics of working with InDesign.  We will look at the screen and learn about its various parts and how to work with the Panels. We will also edit a document by adding text, graphics and applying styles.

 

Lesson 2: Creating a Document

We got a first look at working with frames in the last lesson. In this lesson we will look at text and graphic frames, how we can format them and manipulate the contents of the frames. We will also learn to change the size and shape of the frames. With graphic frames we will look at how to edit the graphics we place in the frame by resizing and repositioning the object. We will also look at how to change the shape of the graphic frame. We will also look at how we can rotate, resize and align objects on the page.

 

Lesson 3: Working with Text

In this lesson we are going to focus on getting our text into our document and getting it positioned, formatted and checked to ensure that it all looks good. We will look at how to add text to a text frame from within InDesign and take a look at placing text created in a word processor. We will learn to flow text, add character and paragraph formatting and adjust the spacing within our text.

 

Lesson 4: Working with Color

In this lesson we are going to take a look at working with color in InDesign. We will explore the swatches panel and learn to add colors, tints and gradients to the swatches panel for a document. We will look at how to add color to text and objects in our document and how to add create and add gradients. We will also explore color management in InDesign.

 

Lesson 5: Working with Styles

We worked with adding text and applying styles in an earlier lesson. In this lesson we will learn to create and use the various types of styles available in InDesign. Using styles to build and format our documents makes applying formatting and updating formatting later a much faster and easier task.

 

Lesson 6: Graphics and Tables

In this lesson we will look at adding graphics to our InDesign documents. We will look at how to import graphics and place graphics created in graphics applications like Photoshop and Illustrator. We will look at how we can change what part of an image displays using clipping paths. We will also look at how to create libraries to manage our graphics and other objects we work with in InDesign. We will also take a look at working with tabular data in InDesign. We will import a table and then look at adding formatting to the table in InDesign. We will format the table and also look at formatting individual cells. Keep in mind that tables are different in InDesign than they are in Word or Dreamweaver. They are not used for layout purposes. They just provide a row and column structure for data.

 

Lesson 7: Transparency and Printing

In this lesson we are going to take a look at the transparency features and effects as a way of making our documents visually interesting. We will also look at ways to ensure our printed documents look as expected.

 

Lesson 8: Forms and eBooks

In this lesson we will take a look at how to create interactive PDF forms.

 

Lesson 9: EPUBs

In this lesson we take a look at how to create eBooks and iPad publications from our InDesign documents.

 

Lesson 10: Putting it All Together

You made it! You have now had a chance to work with most of the tools InDesign offers. Now it will be up to you to practice what you have learned and apply it to the work you plan to do with InDesign.
This lesson will allow you to use the tools you have learned in this class to create a project of your own. You can create a new project or continue to work on one you have already created in this course.

  Adobe Photoshop CC Curriculum

Lesson 1: Getting Started

When people think of Photoshop they think about taking their digital images and getting the red-eye out, making everything the right color and improving the overall appearance of the image. While that is not ALL Photoshop will do, it is certainly very good at it! In this lesson we are going to introduce you to the Photoshop environment and some of the basic skills you will need to be able to do anything you want to do with Photoshop. We will also explore a collection of tools that will get you started with your photo correction and editing. Although you will not use these tools on every picture, these will be the ones you turn to most often.

 

Lesson 2: Selections and Layers

One of the most important skills you can have in Photoshop is the ability to use all the selection tools to select parts of your image you want to modify. In this lesson we will introduce you to the selection tools and in later lessons we will show you additional techniques you can use for selecting parts of your image for editing. This is a first look at the tool and the project is set up to “work right the first time”. Don’t despair if these do not work as cleanly on your images. We will learn more about refining selections in a later lesson. After selections, Layers will be the next most important features of Photoshop you will learn. Layers allows you to break up your editing into parts to create the final image. In some cases you may put parts of an image or drawing onto a layers so that you can edit it separately. In other cases you may make changes to an image on a layer so you can go back and change your mind later. This latter feature is one I use quite a bit!

 

Lesson 3: Correcting and Enhancing Digital Photographs

In this lesson we are going to explore ways we can improve our images in Photoshop. We’ll start by looking at the Camera Raw features for improving the overall appearance of the image. We will also look at tools we can use in Photoshop for fixing highlights and shadows, removing red-eye, fixing distortion and combining images.

 

Lesson 4: Masks, Channels and Types

In this lesson we are going to first look at masks and channels. Masks allow us to hide parts of an image without affecting the image itself. This can be a handy way to crop an image or combine parts of several different images. I like this feature because it is non-destructive and I can always go back and adjust the masking if I need to. Next, we will explore channels. Channels are like layers in that different pieces of information are stored in each channel, but they contain the color information for the overall image. We will use channels to create a selection in order to create a shadow. Finally, we will be working with text. We’ll add point, path and paragraph text to our project and look at how to format the text and use it for special effects.

 

Lesson 5: Vector Drawing

Up until now we have focused on the Photoshop bitmap tools, the selection tools, paint brushes, and editing tools all work with individual bits of an image. This lesson explores the vector side of Photoshop. The Pen Tool is not the only vector creation tool in Photoshop. Any of the shape tools can also create vector shapes. The vector shapes can be used to create selections, masks or paths. Even text can be converted to a vector shape. Keep in mind that although you may create a shape using a vector tool, the shape will become a bitmap when you are finished. Ultimately Photoshop is a bitmap editing tool. For vector editing you will need to use something like Adobe Illustrator. While the web uses mostly bitmap graphics, there is still a need for vector graphics in design work. We will take a look at the differences between the two formats and why you might choose one format over the other. The pen tool is used to create paths and can be used to create selections or shapes. It may take some practice to get comfortable with it, but it’s well worth the time investment.

 

Lesson 6: Layering and Compositing

In this lesson we are going to explore working layers. We will work with Adjustment layers, filters and building images from multiple pieces. We will explore the Photomerge tool for combining multiple images into a panorama.

 

Lesson 7: Producing Output

In this lesson we explore getting our images out of Photoshop to be used for their ultimate purpose. We will first look at slicing our Photoshop images and saving them to be used as a web page. We will see also how to save a simple image to be included in a web page or emailed to a friend. Next. we will look at creating printed output. We will look at how we may need to adjust the image to CMYK format and what issues we may encounter. We will also look at the Print command and options.

 

Lesson 8: Painting with the Mixer Brush

In this lesson we take a look at Photoshop as a painting tool. We will look at the mixer brush for creating paintings in Photoshop and look at how we can turn a photograph into a painting.

 

Lesson 9: Advanced Topics

In this lesson we will look at two very unique features of Photoshop – video editing and 3D.

 

Lesson 10: Putting it All Together

You made it! You have now had a chance to work with most of the tools Photoshop offers. Now it will be up to you to practice what you have learned and apply it to the work you plan to do with Photoshop, whether it is photo retouching or creating original works of art. This lesson will allow you to use the tools you have learned in this class to create a project of your own. You can fix a photo or create art of any kind.
